El Barranco del Ingles and Costa Adeje Golf
The Canary Islands are situated only a few hundred kilometres off the north-west coast of Africa and are geographically located in the continent of Africa. Despite their location, the islands are very much a part of sovereign Spain and considered to be European with de-facto membership of the EU. As such, the islands are diverse, steeped in cultural influences from Europe, and enjoy a way of life that is advanced, sophisticated and firmly first-world. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is home to some of the most desirable property hotspots in the whole of Spain.
Widely known as, “the island of eternal spring”, Tenerife has many microclimates due the presence of Spain’s highest peak, Mount Teide (3718m). This means the north can be verdant but occasionally cloudy, whereas the south and west of the island are almost always dry and fine. For this reason, the south-west corner of Tenerife is considered to have one of the finest climates in the world. Occupying a perfect position within this wonderful region, there exists a veritable oasis of tranquillity and opulence; namely Costa Adeje Golf, and within that, the prime location of "El Barranco del Ingles”.
Located inland from the incredibly popular village of La Caleta by approx. 2km, the 18 hole championship golf course at Adeje was opened in 1998 in Calle Alcojora. It was augmented by another 9 hole course, Los Lagos, a few years later. The multi-tier driving range not only provides a great location for golfers to hone their skills, but is also a natural amphitheatre, and has provided a unique venue for outdoor concerts featuring international super stars such as Rod Stewart, Elton John and Simply Red.
Locally, there are several fine 5 star hotels, also on Calle Alcojora, opposite the stunning Golf Clubhouse, namely Hotel Royal Garden Villas and Royal River and Spa, which both look over the beautiful Los Lagos Golf Course. A little further down towards La Caleta, on Avenida de los Acantilados, one can find the wonderful 5 Star Villa Maria and, in La Caleta itself, there is the brand new 5 Star Royal Hideaway Corales Suites on Avenida Virgen de Guadalupe. The area also hosts a vast, world-class sports centre called T3 (Tenerife Top Training) which boasts 2 full size grass football pitches, Olympic Size swimming pool, tennis courts, padel courts, athletics track and fully equipped indoor and outdoor gymnasiums. Costa Adeje’s T3 facility is the training venue of choice for elite and professional athletes and teams from all over the world and can be found on Avenida de los Acantilados, opposite Villa Maria hotel.
Turning our attention now to the fantastic properties in this area, and working from the top down, it is still possible to find a small number of homes under 1m euros, but most of the magnificent residences in this area fall into the 1–6 million euro + range. Above the main golf course, positioned on the first line overlooking the 15th fairway, one can find a string of 18 linked villas, Sunset Golf Villas, on Calle Arigue which were built in a Mexican style by the renowned constructor Tierra del Fuego. In addition, the same builder has constructed 28 more villas, on a second phase on the second line. Most of these villas would sell for under 1m euros at the time of writing.
Moving down Calle Alcojora, passing between the Royal Garden Villas and the main Adeje Golf Clubhouse, turn right into Calle Samarin, the original “millionaires row” of Costa Adeje Golf. Located between the 1st and the 13th fairways, the construction of these 3 dozen or so individually designed villas proved some years ago that there was a rapidly growing appetite and demand for super-luxury living in Tenerife. With asking prices well in excess of 1m euros, they continue to attract the high end corner of the market thanks to the bespoke specifications, enviable location and stunning views.
Turning right out of Calle Samarin onto Calle Alcojora, down to Calle Neveda and Calle Cojora, one passes some more beautiful villa developments; Caleta Golf Villas and Golden Villas. At the roundabout, if we take the first exit into Calle Tajore, we see the aforementioned Tierra del Fuego construction company are building some large villas. To the end, where you’ll encounter a complex built by Kurt Konrad; Mirador del Golf, 32 small linked properties, with a communal swimming pool.
Moving now to the area adjacent to the Adeje Golf Course, we are into the most opulent area, El Barranco del Ingles, where one can find villas to match those seen in the most affluent areas of the world. Travelling down the main arterial route from the TF1 motorway to La Caleta, Avenida de Ayyo, one can see nothing but huge independent villas, some on plots of 2000m2, and taking the main road, from Avenida la Palmita to Avenida de la Macaronesia, the scale of this development becomes apparent. There are a small number of smaller streets, Calle el Tablero, Calle Los Molteros and calle Francisco Manuel, which only have a handful of villas due to the sheer size of the properties and the plots. The views from every one of these properties, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean are exquisite. The closest island, La Gomera, is almost always in view, sometimes seeming so close as to be within touching distance, and two other islands, El Hierro to the left of La Gomera, and the twin humps of La Palma, can be seen on clear days.
It is impossible to put into words the magnificence of this part of Tenerife, it is simply stunning. Only 2 minutes from the TF1 motorway, 20 minutes from the Tenerife South airport, with all of the amenities of the south coast only 5 – 10 minutes drive away and the expanding west coast up to Los Gigantes and beyond just a short car ride away, the location couldn't be better. Whether to reside here or to own a property to spend quality time in, in unarguably the best climate in the world, is surely the peak of most people’s aspirations.
